[James Earl Jones Voice from Conan] "Ah the riddle of propogation..." Foubd this on JS8call group today. https://youtu.be/r_w8Uleg5GU On Mon, Sep 2, 2019, 04:51 randall krippner <randallkrippner@...> wrote: That was an interesting experiment. I was picking up stations from all over the east coast but the only thing west of about the Dakotas was a fellow in Wyoming. So you could hear me but I wasn't getting you. I suspect my high noise level here was the reason why. My noise level here is a nearly constant S-5 and can run as high as S-9. I'll keep fiddling around and see what happens. I bet if I'd stayed up later it would have worked as conditions improved later in the night. I'm always fascinated with propagation. The other day I had no trouble at all getting into the west coast but yesterday nothing. |

I finally picked up Zello too and joined the off-grid comms channel. Well, if I can figure out how to use it. Looks pretty simple, really. I need to hook the OCFD antenna again and try that. Had to take it down when the neighbor had some trees taken down but that won't take long to put up. That's really my NVIS antenna and should be up anyway so I can get back on 80 meters and my wife can listen in to the ARES state net. Sorry to the group, I sometimes forget that the emails are not just posted online and are going to everyone, which would be annoying in this case as it's a few of us trying to make comms across the nation, not list directly related.
In the future, we should stick to using the Z-net channel: https://offgridcomms.groups.io/g/main/topic/zello_app_channel/32658532?p=,,,20,0,0,0::recentpostdate%2Fsticky,,,20,2,0,32658532 When working comms, again.. my apologies to the group. |

wrong psk

Randall,
|

oops, I spoke too soon. No ack back. I'm skipping all over myself, interesting watching everyones signals on pskreporter. I can see contacts I just had now are being heard past me but not in close.
Leaving it on 40M |
|
WB-16 MSG left on KI7ECE/B for you just now, try direct query. We both can talk to him according to pskreporter
|
|
I see you are skipping over me. Need more NVIS in your antenna. :)

I've tried 2 or 3 times as well but no connection to local or close in regional.

Seems like bands are a bit dead today, maybe as the GL comes closer. Appreciate the try! Jim, have been trying on and off since about 11 AM central time but no luck. For some reason I'm not getting out at all west of the Mississippi. East coast, yes, west coast, zilch.
Just for the heck of it I plugged the amp in and kicked the power up to 300 watts and even that didn't do any good. I'll try again later. That's the fun thing about radio, conditions can change almost instantly for no obvious reason. Keeps things interesting :) |

Yes, I believe it's the deal maker if we can get it working. No more being tied to a sched! Also, being able to query the group at once is nice. AmRRON is starting to use it I see. Many times now I have asked @AMRRON if they have any messages for me and gotten 3+ responses immediately telling me who is on air. If you did this when you came up on the radio and then stored your message on their boxes, u just tripled the chances of another @AMRRON member getting it, or you more considering now everyone is running 27/7 boxes in SHTF. Great potential, thanks for trying. Randall, I also left you one on another box (cant remember whose) about half way between us. Try @ALLCALL and u might find it. There is a MSG sitting on my box for @OGCOMMS, see if you an retrieve the WOD (word of the day) and post it here.

I have Dimension 4 and it works very well.
I forgot about decoding all signals in the frequency range. I bet you're right. I should have thought of that myself. |

Yeah, I saw that on the JS8 group. As long as u have internet it's a great way. The GPS method is a little more involved but works in grid down scenarios.
